How do you feel about eugenics?
I think that it is immoral for us to play God. People are doing strange things to alter their bodies, as if God made a mistake. He doesn’t make mistakes.
Could eugenics ever serve a noble or a good purpose? If so, what would that be?
Perfection is impossible to attain, and there is no such thing as "racial purity." So why bother with eugenics in the first place?
This may be a little bit of a conspiracy theory- but I think that the pharmaceutical industry would not want us to tinker with eugenics in order to cure disease. They would go out of business if we cured cancer, AIDS, down syndrome, etc. Wouldn’t they?
What is your view?
EDIT: Morpheus-
Actually, the term ‘eugenics’ is still apt. It is not obsolete, as you suggest. I am taking a college course on cultural diversity right now, and the issue of eugenics is still very much alive. Yes, the term is often seen in a pejorative light, and it is often associated with Nazi atrocities from WWII. But what planet do you live on, man? Are you aware that China has had eugenic practices in the past few years? Or did you miss that one…
"Eugenics" is ALWAYS satanic. No exceptions to that.

Unscientific nonsense. No science supports the practice.

People should have control over their own reproductive faculties.

There is no profit if people aren’t sick to buy their drugs- I agree with that.
Who says people want perfection? Where did you get that Idea from? Science is what it is, so don’t mix in your religion in it.

We have been practicing eugenics since we evolved. Virtually all species do.
Do you still have your wisdom teeth? Do you still think God does not make mistakes?

I agree with genetic engineering but eugenics is ridiculous. Your god may not make mistakes but evolution does.

A. Hitler thought eugenics was great, and decided to help evolution along by removing what he considered the weaker races.
Paul M | Feb 03, 2010
Do you really even have to ask a question like this? Anybody with any decency knows that eugenics is a horrendous human rights violation. And I say that as an atheist who isn’t supposed to have any morals.

There are two forms of Eugenics.
Negative eugenics was the forced sterilization and killing of people who did not measure up to some silly standard, such as be a member of the Aryan race or whatnot. Negative eugenics is very undesirable and has a very bad reputation. World War II was fought over, in part, negative eugenics.
Positive eugenics does not harm anyone but seeks to genetically modify anyone’s children to add to their abilities better mental and physical talents. I expect that social engineering by genetics will become common over the next twenty years and will be successful in improving people’s lives of all cultures, races, and nationalities.
Alan Turing | Feb 03, 2010
The Nazis performed many experiments in an effort to purify human genes and in effect produce a master race.
But their sheer barbarian treatment of other races made it clear, that they should be the last ones to determine what is a master race.
God gave us our individuality, and it is beautiful in every person. Eugenics would produce a society of all like characteristics.
The garden of humanity with all of its beautiful variety would be reduced to a universal sameness.
It is not only immoral, it is dishonoring to God, and robs Him of His creative design.
Very much in love with God. | Feb 03, 2010

John Dewey Frankfort school
Fabian Socialists
Communism depopulation
There are already people in Obama’s admin that should scare us. Holdren wants to sterilize the water, Ezekial Emmanual wants to change the hippocratic oath so Drs can euthanize us

It must be stopped before it is too late to reverse the mistakes we will make to the modern human body. It took the God Yahweh many years of genetic manipulation to perfect the modern human body as it is today. Our human scientists are in their infancy in their understanding of how to manipulate genetics and will only create inferior changes to the already God perfected modern human body. These genetically altered freaks of nature will change the course of evolution of life as we now know it on Earth for the worse not the better. We will make planet Earth like the island of Doctor Moreau. What a great future that will be for our great, great grandchildren.

I don’t agree with eugenics. Then again, I don’t agree with IVF, either. I think that you should either take what you get, or if you can’t get a baby the old-fashioned way, adopt a child who needs a home.
Meagan | Feb 03, 2010
It’s odd you should choose the word "eugenics" - that hasn’t been used much since WW 2. The word now is "genetics". And it is the main work of biology.
Morpheus | Feb 03, 2010
It’s a dangerous notion that nonetheless is happening.
To a previous answerer… Current science does not support it? Really? What do you call the option to end a pregnancy based on genetic "flaws" in an unborn child?
As far as wisdom teeth… my goodness, they are NOT a mistake… before the advent of dental care folks needed all the molars they could get. Why do you think they are called wisdom teeth? Most folks were older when they came to rely on them. Mistake? Come on.

Tricky question you know. I definately believe we should have a mass genocide of all the –sholes of the world regardless of race, creed, etc.
But its difficult because aside from ourselves and the microscopic world, we have effectively eliminated any vulnerability to natural predators. as such, our herd has not been properly culled in quite some time.
To put humans in charge of it is always of a certain questionability, however, we sure have taken it into our hands to make breeding possible for those who should or could not.
So maybe no eugenics, but no fertility clinics either. because that is also playing G-d.
